Oscillation Improves Doctoring Performance and Efficiency

Electro-mechanical oscillation can be used anywhere along the papermaking machine but is primarily recommended for use in the press, dryer and breaker stack sections, as well as the calender section and reel. Oscillation has many benefits. Doctoring performance is significantly improved, as is the overall efficiency of the application. Through its knifing action, oscillation acts to prevent particle buildup under the blade. Additionally, the continuous motion assures more even blade wear, resulting in longer blade life and reduced roll scoring. The heavy-duty system oscillates the doctor a total stroke of 3 /4" ( 3 /8" on each side of centerline) at 6 cycles per minute. The motor and gear unit can be mounted to either the tending or drive side, depending on machine configuration. A heavy-duty fractional horsepower motor drives a double-reduction gear unit, which connects to an extended journal on the doctor through the use of a cam follower. Free-moving, anti-friction bearings are incorporated into the system to provide minimum resistance and a smooth stroke.
